Active Scripting
(JavaScript) in Internet Explorer
Active Scripting must be enabled in your browser for this application to
function properly.
The easiest way to enable Active Scripting is to set your security
settings for your "Internet Zone" to "Medium". This will will allow you
to maintain a suitable level of security, while eliminating most
problems associated with Internet Explorer.
To set your security settings to Medium, follow the following steps:
Click on the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer.
Select "Internet Options".
At the top of the window that appears, click "Security".
You should have the "Internet" zone selected by default. If not, select
it.
Click the button that says "Default Level".
Select the "Medium" setting.
If you don't want to change your overall security settings, follow the
following steps:
Click on the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer.
Select "Internet Options".
At the top of the window that appears, click "Security".
You should have the "Internet" zone selected by default. If not, select
it.
Click the button that says "Custom Level".
Scroll down to option called "Active Scripting" and be sure that it's
set to "Enable" or "Prompt".
While you're there, be sure that the "Scripting of Java Applets" option
is also set to "Enable".
You will then need to close down and restart Internet Explorer.

Tips for Getting The Hushmail Encryption Application Working in
Internet Explorer
Tip 1: Set Your Security Settings to Medium
The most common problem Internet Explorer users have with this
application is that they set the security settings on their browser too
high, disabling essential features such as JavaScript. this application
recommends a security setting of "Medium".
To set your security settings to Medium, follow the following steps:
Click on the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer.
Select "Internet Options".
At the top of the window that appears, click "Security".
You should have the "Internet" zone selected by default. If not, select
it.
Click the button that says "Default Level".
Select the "Medium" setting.
Tip 2: Use the latest browser
Internet Explorer 6 has the highest success rate with this application.
Tip 3: Make sure that Java is installed
Java is built into all Windows platforms except for XP. If you have
Windows XP, you can install the Sun Java Plug-in by following this link:
http://java.sun.com/getjava
Tip 4: Try starting the application without installing it on your hard
drive
By default, this application will install itself on your hard drive for
faster future access. If you don't have permission to install software
on your computer, you may need to click the link that says "If you don't
have permission to install software on your computer, click here to run
the Hush Encryption Engine without installing it on your hard drive."
This link will appear on the page that displays just after you enter
your username and attempt to log in. Note: If you are using the Sun Java
Plug-in this does not apply. |
Enabling Java
in Internet Explorer
This application requires Java to function properly.

current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this
page." - if you do not have Java enabled. This error is inaccurate.
Internet Explorer thinks the Java applet is an ActiveX control. This
application uses no ActiveX content. |

Hushmail services require that one of the following Java Virtual
Machines (VM) be installed on your computer to run our Java applet, the
HushEncryptionEngine.
This plugin can be used across most browsers and operating systems.
Examples below use version 1.4.1_02 or later.
Windows users can verify whether or not the Sun plugin is installed on
their computer:
1. Click on Start Menu
2. Select "Settings", and then click on "Control Panel".
3. In the new window which appears, locate an icon featuring a coffee
cup (pictured above) labelled "Java Plug-in".
You can download the latest version at
http://www.java.com/
Comes installed by default with all versions of Windows (98/NT/2K/ME)
except Windows XP.
At the time of writing, Windows XP Service Pack 1 does not install the
Microsoft VM, and new XP users are recommended to install the Sun Java 2
plugin.
Users with existing installations of the MSVM can upgrade to the most
recent version at
http://www.winwdowsupdate.com
Installed by default in old versions of Netscape Communicator, i.e: 4.7x

/ Macintosh compatibility requirements |

Compatibility requirements are:
1. Your operating system must be Mac OS X version 10.3+
2. Your browser must be Safari version 1.2+
3. Your virtual machine must be Sun's Java plug-in version 1.4.2+
The latest version of Safari (v1.2) has implemented LiveConnect,
which is required for JavaScript / Java communication.
VirtualPC on Mac is reported to load Hushmail without a problem |
